The investigation bodies, the police and the Prosecutor’s Office made “considerable” progress in examining the case of kidnapping of Ukrainian judge Nicolae Ceaus, with a number of proofs being obtained, acting Minister of Home Affairs Pavel Voicu stated for TV8 channel. “There is evidence, but it refers to the concrete actions taken and the prosecutor in charge of the case is to pronounce on the subsequent steps,” he stated, being quoted by IPN.

Pavel Voicu also said that he today took part in the meeting of the parliamentary commission that is investigating the case of kidnaping and he furnished the members who have access to secret work with the information he possessed.

In 2016, Ukrainian citizen Nicolai Ceaus started to be investigated for bribery and other illegalities in Ukraine. In 2017, crossing illegally Moldova’s border, he asked for political asylum from the presidential institution. His request was rejected and the refusal is now being examined at the Supreme Court of Justice.

The Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases instituted criminal proceedings over the kidnapping of Ukrainian citizen Nicolai Ceaus on Moldova’s territory on April 3.

President Maia Sandu commented on this case, saying it is inadmissible for people to disappear in the Republic of Moldova, either they are Moldovans or not, either they committed legalities or not.
