The caretaker president of the Democratic Party Pavel Filip said that after quitting as president of the PDM Vladimir Plahotniuc stopped having any influence on the party. In a program on TVR Moldova channel, the ex-Premier noted that they had a vertical of power that was abnormal for a democratically orientated party until now, IPN reports.

“If we speak about mistakes, I think that while we were in power, the party had a more aggressive approach to the political opponents and a way of conduct. Maybe this is normal for a ruling party, but I don’t think this brought political value to us. I believe it was a vertical of power atypical for a democratically oriented party. Therefore, we should analyze things,” stated Pavel Filip.

According to him, the Democratic Party augmented its weight and gained more seats of MP, but it didn’t grow politically much and it is thus in the opposition at present. “I think a rather authoritarian management method was used inside the party,” noted Pavel Filip.

As to the negotiation process in the post-electoral period, the politician said that during three months he didn’t take part in any discussion between the PDM and PSRM. “I must admit that this didn’t please me as I think broader consultations were needed. But I cannot say I was isolated and didn’t know how things stand. I was informed by colleagues and directly by Vladimir Plahotniuc. I know that he had talks on behalf of the Democratic Party with Igor Dodon on behalf of the Party of Socialists. I didn’t hear about discussions held with representatives of the Bloc ACUM in the period,” he stated.

Pavel Filip also spoke about the necessity of reforming the party, noting they must understand why the party is now in the opposition after it won the largest number of seats of MP in its history.
