"The elections of October 20 were held in an unnatural and hostile environment for the country, as the new government installed a convenient and politically partisan Central Electoral Commission. Additionally, she subordinated the justice system and all public institutions, so that the elections involve unequal conditions for the candidates". The statement was made in a press conference by the Democratic Party leader, Pavel Filip.

The Democrat said that more than 190 PDM mayors were elected into office in the first election round, which represents 20% of all mayoral positions, a much better result than four years ago. The PDM has the largest number of mayors on the national level. Other 75 PDM candidates proceeded into the second round.

According to Pavel Filip, the PDM won the majority of votes in six major districts, while it came in second in 12 districts. The Democrat leader said that the results are "rather good", given the "crisis that the party has gone through and that it campaigned with minimal resources".

Pavel Filip congratulated the democrat Ghenadie Verdeș, who won the MP seat in electoral district no 17, Nisporeni.
