Prime Minster Pavel Filip and the leadership of the Ministry of the Interior laid flowers at the monument to police officer killed in the line of duty erected in the Park “Valea Morilor” in connection with the National Flag Day that is celebrated on April 27, IPN reports.
The ceremony included the raising of the national flag and playing of Moldova’s national anthem, while students of the Police Academy “Stefan cel Mare si Sfant” marched in uniforms.
Prime Minister Pavel Filip said the national flag says a lot as to how we are as a nation. “It is a symbol of the sovereignty and independence of the Republic of Moldova. For war veterans, the national flag symbolizes honor, courage and military glory. It reminds the service members and police officers of their holy duty to serve the homeland with faith and to defend it even at the cost of one’s own life,” he stated.
According to deputy minister of the interior Oleg Babin, the National Flag Day is a proof of the solidarity and unity of the people. “The tricolor reminds of memorable moments in the development of the Republic of Moldova, which bear witness to the love for the national, the wish for unity and freedom. The national flag is one of the most precious symbols of our national identity,” stated the official.
“The identity of a people is defined by its national symbols that form part of the country’s heritage. The tricolor, alongside the national anthem and coat of arms, are important components of our nation,” stated Alexei Armas, chairman of the Association of Veterans and Pensioners of the Ministry of the Interior.
The National Flag Day was instituted by Parliament on April 23, 2010. The tricolor was designated as national flag on April 27, 1990 by the members of the first legislature.
