In the Republic of Moldova, an information system will be established to include data on patients with HIV and other sexually transmitted infections, as well as information on antiretroviral therapies and treatment outcomes, IPN reports.

The project for the creation of the “HIV Infection Monitoring and Evaluation” Information System (SI) has been developed by the Ministry of Health and is set to be approved by the Government.

“This technological solution provides an accessible and secure environment for recording and tracking patients affected by these infections, thereby facilitating the monitoring of their health status and the administration of appropriate treatment”, states the project.

According to the Ministry of Health, HIV infection monitoring, which continues throughout a patient’s lifetime, requires a system that ensures data confidentiality, controlled and secure access for infectious disease specialists within district offices and regional centers for antiretroviral treatment.

The estimated budget for developing the HIV Monitoring and Evaluation Information System (SIME HIV) is nearly four million lei, an amount allocated within the Global Fund Grant for the 2024-2026 period.

The software maintenance will be funded in 2026 from Global Fund resources, after which it will be supported by the implementing institution - Toma Ciorba Clinical Hospital for Infectious Diseases.

In the Republic of Moldova, approximately 11,000 people have been diagnosed with HIV, of whom 8,500 are receiving antiretroviral treatment.
