The MPs of the Party of Action and Solidary put forward a legislative proposal to subject the Competition Council to an external audit so as to assess the performance of this institution during the last several years and to pave the way for the replacement of its administration. The MPs noted this key institution for Moldova’s economy, whose task is to fight monopolies, failed lamentably, IPN reports.

On his Facebook page, MP Radu Marian said the incompetence of this market can be seen best on the oil products market. The oil sellers systemically increase the prices in unison, for the fifth time this year, while the Competition Council does not take measures to counteract the evident carter agreements.

According to the MP, the Council’s lack of reaction for fighting anti-competition tendencies is visible also in other key areas of the economy such as the dairy products, grain, metals and other markets. In such conditions, an independent foreign audit at the Council should be carried out. This was also one of the conditions of the EU for disbursing the second tranche of macro-financial assistance in 2020.
