The group of the Party of Action and Solidarity on the Chisinau Municipal Council demands to annul the new cleanup tax of 120 lei per person a year. According to the PAS councilors, this tax is an additional financial burden for families from the municipality, which was introduced non-transparently and covertly so as to cover the losses caused by the contracts and fraudulent concessions signed by the mayor in favor of his friends and supporters, IPN reports.

“There has been no real explanation or justification about the new cleanup tax. This tax is an additional burden for the inhabitants of the municipality. The way in which this tax was introduced is in the mayor’s style. We all want a clean and comfortable city, but we cannot ignore the law and common sense to do this, to pay for the mayor’s favoritism from people’s pockets,” the deputy head of the PAS group on the CMC Zinaida Popa told a news conference.

According to the PAS group, the introduction of this tax of 120 lei without providing financial and moral explanations and justifications is a proof of the lack of respect of the current mayor’s office for the citizens who live in Chisinau. A four-member family must pay additionally 480 lei a year.

“The PAS group on the CMC never supported the introduction of this cleanup tax. We commit ourselves to defend the interests of citizens and, in this regard, we drafted a decision by which we demand to annul the cleanup tax and to initiate a broad discussion on what a Clean and Comfortable City means, but this objective should be achieved not with citizens’ money, but with the professionalism and skillfulness of the local elected officials,” said councilor Dumitru Ivanov.

According to him, in today’s meeting of the CMC, the PAS group will propose including the draft decision on the annulment of the cleanup tax in the agenda as a matter of urgency.
