The extraordinary meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC), convened by the councilors of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) for Friday, did not take place as a quorum was not present. According to PAS councilor Zinaida Popa, none of the mates from the other parties represented in the CMC responded to their invitation to come to the meeting. The first meeting of the CMC convened by PAS councilors on December 26 also did not take place due to lack of a quorum, IPN reports.

According to Zinaida Popa, the PAS councilors for the second time convoked an extraordinary meeting of the Chisinau Municipal Council as this must work. “Our mandate was validated two months ago and we must show concern about the problems of the people of Chisinau. But for the second time, none of the councilors of the other groups, of the other parties responded to our invitation to work,” stated the councilor.

She noted that neither the groups were constituted nor councilors were delegated to work on specialized commissions in the CMC. “How can we talk about solving problems when the people don’t even want to come to a meeting. This makes us draw the conclusion that Ion Ceban acts in collusion and in agreement with other political parties, such as the PSRM, the Communists. Otherwise, we do not understand why they are not present today at this meeting, which was convened according to the regulations of the Chisinau Municipal Council, initiated by one third of the municipal councilors,” noted Zinaida Popa.

She urged the municipal councilors to come to meetings and called on mayor general Ion Ceban to get to work.

Later, Ion Ceban posted a message on his Facebook page. “Today, PAS councilors, accompanied by the “screamers” who advertise for them, forced the doors and burst into the Chisinau City Hall and the office of deputy mayor Olga Ursu, who explained to them the procedures in detail, according to the law, and answered to them professionally. Those from PAS stage such shows every day, including at CMC meetings,” wrote the mayor general.

Under the legal provisions, the CMC meets in ordinary session every three months, at the convocation of the mayor general. The Council may also hold extraordinary meetings whenever necessary, at the request of the mayor or of at least one-third of the elected councilors.

There are 51 councilors on the Chisinau Municipal Council. After last November’s elections, the National Alternative Movement Party and the Party of Action and Solidarity won by 20 seats of councilor. The Party of Socialists holds six seats, the Party of Communists – two seats, while the Revival Party, the Dignity and Truth Platform Party and Our Party – by one seat.
