Political commentator Ion Tăbârță said the downward tendencies in the popular approval ratings of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) was predictable. According to Tăbârță, the government does not manage to meet the expectations of the citizens. However, the voters are not yet fully disappointed in the PAS government. At the same time, the sociologists who this week made public two opinion polls where the citizens’ voting intention is different said the data are different because the used interviewing methods were different, IPN reports.

According to the poll carried out by IData, if elections were held next Sunday, PAS would gain 28.7% of the vote, PSRM – 14.9%, while Șor Party – 10.8%. The IData’s survey is different from the poll conducted in the same period on an almost similar sample by CBS-Research. According to CBS-Research, PAS and BECS have the same voter preference score, of 24.7%.

“The data we collected was very clear. PAS remains the main party in the Republic of Moldova and the people trust Maia Sandu the most and nothing unordinary happened for another politician to become more trusted. There are particular changes, but they are appropriate for the politicians who come after Maia Sandu. For example, Igor Dodon has experienced a decline that we monitor monthly. The PAS has slightly decreased in polls since September. PAS can gain 50% of the vote now too and this is evident,” IData director Mihai Bologan stated in the talk show “Secrets of the Power” on JurnalTV channel.

Political commentator Ion Tăbârță said the decline in people’s confidence in the current government that is shown by polls is normal and was predictable.

“The PAS’s decline is clear. The expectations were very high and it is now evident that the government has problems. The energy crisis and the higher bills also had an impact. Furthermore, the result of the July 11 elections does not represent the natural, ordinary pool of PAS. The diaspora also votes in elections, but it is not covered by the measurements. Therefore, the downward tendencies are evident for PAS. If we look at the moods in society, we cannot yet speak about full disappointment,” stated Ion Tăbârță.

Vasile Cantarji, director of the sociological company CBS-Research, said the differences between his company’s poll and the poll of IData are due to the different methods used to interview the people. Also, the sociologist responded to PAS vice president Olesea Stamate, who said that CBS-Research’s poll was “drawn”.

“We carried out the poll based on face-to-face interviews. The poll presented by IData was conducted on the phone. We are used to attacks on the part of politicians. Our politicians, due to their political immaturity, attack the polls when they are not satisfied with the way they look in polls, but they do not try to understand where the problem derives from. There were many cases when politicians, following attacks on polls or the press, became “former political!”. Olesea Stamate forgot that we were the sociological company that predicted the winner at the last parliamentary elections and at the presidential elections,” stated Vasile Cantarji, of CBS-Research.

The CBS – Research survey was carried out during December 4-15 and covered a sample of 1,055 persons. It has a margin of sampling error of plus/minus 2.8%. The IData poll was conducted during December 12-19 on a sample of 1,021 people and has a margin of sampling error of plus/minus 3%.
