The Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) has announced a protest against the government for August 16, starting at 11am. This will be mounted in the square of the National Opera House. “Those who have what to say to the current government, who want to defend their rights and to demand that the government behave responsibly and with respect for people’s needs are invited to join in,” PAS leader  Maia Sandu was quoted by IPN as saying in a press briefing.

As to the pandemic situation, the politician said the organizers and the participants of the protest undertake to be cautious, to maintain social distancing and to wear masks. “This situation cannot prevent us from telling the Dodon Government what we think about it and about the President who “eats” public money and who is an obstacle to solving people’s problems,” stated Maia Sandu.

She noted the authorities do not hear and do not solve the problems faced by the farmers, business entities and the diaspora, caused by the drought and other natural calamities and the COVID-19 pandemic. They repeatedly warned that these people should be supported, but the authorities behave irresponsibly, ignoring them.

“We also warned that Igor Dodon wants to fully subdue justice. We brought into public focus the abuses committed by him and spoke about discredited and corrupt persons who are named to high-ranking posts in the judicial system by him.”

According to Maia Sandu, the diaspora members usually returned home in August, but now face difficulties as the authorities badly manage the health crisis and cannot contain the pandemic, but impose those who come from a country with a low number of infections to self-isolate for 14 days, making thus their return home impossible.
