The Party of Socialists of the Republic of Moldova (PSRM) staged the 11th extraordinary congress of the party. The meeting discussed the sociopolitical situation in Moldova, approved the amended statutes of the party and elected the new members of the National Council, IPN reports.

A number of 23 National Council members of the 48 were replaced. Among the new members are the MP of the group of Socialists Ion Ceban and Elena Hrenova, who represents the Socialists in the Chisinau Municipal Council. The other 21 are members of the local organizations of the PSRM.

The congress adopted a resolution saying that the solving of the numerous internal economic and social problems must be a priority for the Moldovan politicians. The members of the PSRM consider that any statement or action of the government that runs counter to the Transnistrian conflict settlement should be stopped.

The resolution also says that the Eurasian integration must represent Moldova’s foreign policy development vector. The congress recommended the representatives of the party’s executive bodies to more actively take part in the forums and discussion platforms focusing on the creation of the Eurasian Union and to strengthen the relations with the partners from Russia, Kazakhstan, and Belarus.

On May 29, the Party of Socialists saw a split between the older and the new members of the party. A distinct ideological platform was created within the party, called “Patria-Rodina”. As a result of the June 4 meeting of the PSRM National Council, Veronica Abramciuc and Valentin Krylov were excluded from the party. They hadn’t been members of the National Council.
