Municipal councilors of three factions accuse their colleagues who negotiate the formation of a majority coalition in the Chisinau Municipal Council (CMC) of actually dividing the power. The September 3 meeting of the CMC that was to start at 10am was postponed until 8pm, when the agreement to form the coalition is to be signed, IPN reports.

Ilian Casu, who heads the faction of the Political Party “Our Party”, said the fact that their colleagues from the parties that declare themselves pro-European didn’t president themselves at the meeting set to start at 10am represents at least disrespect. “The people have problems and we want to discuss them, but they divide the power,” he stated.

The leader of the Communist councilors Vasilii Chirtoca said he is against the formation of alliances in the CMC, where they need not politicians, but managers able to deal with the problems faced by the city and its residents. “They divide the power while illegalities are committed in the municipality. But we know that there are several persons in this coalition who care about the people and we will cooperate with them,” he stated.

According to the Socialists’ leader Ion Ceban, if the parties that hold negotiations were indeed pro-European, they would allow the journalist to enter the meeting hall to see what they are discussing there. “We have commitments to the people, while they divide the posts. Principles and values at the local level in the same way as at the general level,” he said.

The agreement on the formation of a majority coalition in the CMC will be signed this evening, at 8pm. The announcement was made by the Liberal Mayor General of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca. He said that the rounds of negotiations between the councilors of the Liberal Party, the Electoral Bloc “European People’s Platform of Moldova – Iurie Leanca”, the Liberal Democratic Party and the Democratic Party were productive and the agreement is 99.9% ready.
