The image of the political parties will change in the period before the parliamentary elections as every party will want to show their abilities and competitiveness and that they struggle for a right cause. But the parties that did good things, but made mistakes must also be punished, director of the Association for Participatory Democracy ADEPT Igor Botan said in the public debate “If parliamentary elections took place tomorrow … Image of the government and power perceived by Moldovan society as an index for the country’s political prospects” that was staged by IPN.

The expert stated that the parties must be penalized so as to give a lesson to the other parties coming after them. This lesson will contribute to progress and the development of Moldova.

Igor Botan said the image of the political parties is a normal and natural thing in Moldova. Every party promotes its views centering on the improvement of the quality of people’s lives. The ruling parties speak about the progress achieved for the people, the opposition speaks about the people’s discontents, while the extra-parliamentary parties say that none of these parties serve the people’s interests and another force is needed. “This is an absolutely normal process, but an appropriate image must show a close correlation between what these parties are and how they want to be perceived,” said the ADEPT director.

According to him, no matter how hard the parties try to show that they are competitive, that they plead for a right cause and that the opponents are weak and promote their own interests, the people must be able to differentiate between what is good and what is bad in a party.

The public debate “If parliamentary elections took place tomorrow … Image of the government and power perceived by Moldovan society as an index for the country’s political prospects” is the 23rd of the series “Development of political culture by public debates” that are organized with the support of the German foundation “Hanns Seidel”.
