Ion Dron, chairman of the Political Party “For People, Nature and Animals” (PONA), presumes that the instructions to the banks not to open accounts for the PONA in the election campaign come from the President’s Office. According to him, the persons who do not obey the current government and do not want to be “subdued” are intimidated and the PONA party is a relevant example. A Moldovan bank refused to open an account in the name of the party for this to be able to pay for campaigning on social networking sites in accordance with the law. The party sent an informative not to the Central Election Commission concerning this case, but hasn’t receive a response so far.

The PONA chairman believes that lists are compiled with persons and parties that criticize the democratic decline of the current regime. Namely these persons are monitored in banks and a proof of this is the fact that the bank refused to open a bank account for the PONA. Ion Dron noted that in accordance with the law, a bank account cannot be opened in the name of a person if this was subject to international sanctions or was definitively sentenced for money laundering, for terrorism financing. “I’m not under international sanctions and do not have definitive sentences passed against me and there are no such sentences passed against members of the political bureau of the PONA,” the party’s chairman stated in a news conference hosted by IPN.

Ion Dron noted that the intimidation activities are aimed at cleaning the political arena. “Elections will take place on November 5 and I therefore call on the political parties from here, from Chisinau, which contend in the local elections to the Chisinau City Hall to get ready for the vote count as the prepared fraud is expected to be massive,” said the PONA chairman.

He noted that the current regime seeks to disseminate the message that those who do not support it are enemies, but this is a principle originating in Nazi Germany. The parties that are not convenient for the current regime suffer.

On September 26, the Political Party “For People, Nature and Animals” was registered as a contender in the elections to the Chisinau Municipal Council.
