Representatives of the political parties from the parliament and of the Writers Union from Moldova are skeptical about convening a great national assembly – an idea launched on April 29, by the association “Parlamentul 90”. Asked by Info-Prim Neo, they said that they were not informed about this initiative.
Mihai Cimpoi, the president of the Writers Union and an Our Moldova Alliance MP in the new parliament, says the initiative of the association of the 1990 parliamentarians should be considered in detail and one should take into account the further development of the events, including the possibility of organizing early elections.
Liberal Party (PL) leader Mihai Ghimpu was skeptical about the idea and said “the Great National Assembly is not so easy to convene.” He specified the subject was discussed within his party. When asked about the openness of the “Parlamentul 90” association for the Communists Party (PCRM), who will be invited to be part of the Commission organizing the Great National Assembly, Mihai Ghimpu has said “in this case, let it be organized by the Communists.”
Our Moldova Alliance's (AMN) spokesman and a parliamentarian in the new parliament, Victor Osipov, says the former MPs' idea is not new and was popped up by some opposition parties after the elections. “We have not considered the proposal within the party since we got no invitation. The concept of a Great National Assembly is non-political, above parties, above doctrines, it is the people who is convened,” Victor Osipov said and specified the idea was good, but needed to be supported by people strong and authoritative enough to gather people. “If someone considers these arguments convincing, he can do it,” said the AMN parliamentarian.
Communist MP Vladimir Turcan says he won't comment the intention of Parlamentul 90, since he is not aware of the position of the ruling party. He said it was a strange and useless idea.
Representatives of the association “Parlamentul 90” said, on August 29, 2009, that they would convene the Great National Assembly, “in any situation, to develop a solution to return the state and society to the path of democracy and national consensus,” after those were damaged, in their opinion, following the April 5 elections. The members of the association asked the writers and the parties in the parliament, including the PCRM, to set up a committee to organize the Great national Assembly. They they will announce the results within 2-3 weeks.
