The MPs of the Party of Action and Solidarity (PAS) will propose eliminating the immunity of MP and adopting the law on the confiscation of property obtained illegally. Until October 1, the minimum pension is to be raised to 2,000 lei, Igor Grosu, acting president of PAS, which won the recent parliamentary elections by an overwhelming score, stated in the talk show “In Depth” on PRO TV channel.

So as to achieve the immediate objectives, the majority parliamentary group will exclude the vacation. For the minimum pension to be raised, the MPs must modify the state budget and ensure access to foreign funds. For the purpose, the negotiations with the IMF will have to be resumed and the EU’s financing needs to be unlocked,” stated Igor Grosu.

As to the law on the confiscation of ill-gotten gains, he said the persons suspected of illegally obtaining property will have to provide evidence to show that they and their families and close relatives honestly earned their incomes. The PAS parliamentary group will adopt a complex approach to the problem that includes the amendment of the Constitution. Given that PAS is short of four votes to amend the basic law, they will look for a legal solution and for other methods. “We will anyway achieve what we planned. We showed that we are insistent and consistent and will prove that the confiscation issue matters,” noted Igor Grosu.

The strengthening of the local authorities is also among the priorities of the new government, which promised not to take into account the political “color” of the mayors when distributing the funds, but to help the leaders of rural communities, first of all to draw up projects so as to fully benefit from EU funding.

Even if he avoiding giving names, the PAS leader said it’s normal for the future executive to include persons who were rejected as candidates for Cabinet member together with him and the party’s vice president Natalia Gavrilița after the Chicu Government resigned amid the pandemic. The party intends to coopt “good people” from pro-European parties, civil society, the diaspora. As regards his person, Igor Grosu said he will remain in Parliament and didn’t reject the idea that he can become Speaker.
