The Parliament will set the elections day in January or earlier in February, says chairman of the Legal Committee Vladimir Turcan, Info-Prim Neo reports.
Turcan explains that the deadline at which the parliamentary elections may be held is June 6 – three months after the expiration of the mandate of the present legislature. The parliament is to call the elections at least 60 days before the poll, under the Electoral Code.
He suggests the date may be set at an extraordinary sitting of the Parliament or at one of the first sittings in February. After setting the date, the deputies will be entitled to pass simple decisions, and even organic laws till March 6.
At the sitting of December 25, the parliamentary majority rejected to consider a draft put up by Moldova Noastra Alliance to set the elections on March 22. Earlier, Coalition 2009 expressed its concern as to the lack of the Parliament's lack of transparency in this regard.
