The MPs come together on July 20 to debate the motion of no confidence proposed by the MPs of the Party “Dignity and Truth Platform” on July 16, which was countersigned by the MPs of the Party of Action and Solidarity, the sitting starts at 2pm, IPN reports.

“The Government invested on October 14, 2019 repeatedly violated the legislation, the Constitution of the Republic of Moldova, undermining the sovereignty and the financial and economic security of the country,” the leader of the PPPPDA’s parliamentary group Alexandru Slusari said when submitting the motion.

One day earlier, the leader of the Pro Moldova Party Andrian Candu announced that the 14 members of the Pro Moldova parliamentary group will support without hesitation any motion of no confidence against the current Government.

Later the same day, the Socialist MPs signed a statement in support of the Government led by Ion Chicu. The party publicly assumed the decision not to vote for the motion of no confidence.

Recently, President Igor Dodon said the motion of no confidence will not be carried as the necessary number of votes will probably not be found.

In a press briefing after the meeting of the senior state officials this morning, Prime Minister Ion Chicu said the Cabinet will be present at the Parliament’s sitting. Depending on the results of this exercise, they will take the subsequent decisions in the course of this week and later. “If the Government is removed, it will become interim and will be limited in powers,” stated the official. He noted that in case of an interim Government, a number of important agreements, including the new memorandum with the IMF, could not be signed.

The motion of no confidence is adopted by a majority of votes of MPs.
