Parliament on June 18 took cognizance of the Government’s resignation and adopted a decision to this effect by a majority of votes, IPN reports.

Also today, outgoing Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici sent the official letter, by which he states his refusal to hold the post of Premier on an interim basis until a new Government is formed, to President Nicolae Timofti. Therefore, the head of state can name another member of the Cabinet as acting Prime Minister.

The Government’s jurists said the acting Premier is chosen from among the three Deputy Prime Ministers, who are the next officials of the highest rank after the Prime Minister. These are Natalia Gherman, Stephane Bride and Victor Osipov.

Chiril Gaburici announced his resignation on June 12, saying he does not want to be suspected of influencing the investigation into the authenticity of his diploma. In his resignation, Chiril Gaburici says he needs additional instruments and support from the political parties to change the system created in the country, but he does not enjoy these.
