Now that the Government assumed political responsibility for another package of laws, Moldova’s Parliament showed once again that it is unable to fulfill its duties. Given such a situation, the Speaker of Parliament should have dissolved the legislature, the People’s Party of the Republic of Moldova (PPRM) says in a press statement, quoted by IPN.

According to the party, the government coalition discredited harshly a series of fundamental principles. It violated the principle of people’s representation in the legislative body.

“The PPRM ascertains that the parties of the ruling alliance haven’t overcome the state of political war since they came to power, while the decisions taken at the end of mandate point to the necessity of politically reforming Moldova. Otherwise, the people of our country risk remaining without country,” reads the statement.

In its platform, the PPRM suggests reducing the number of MPs to 71 and electing them based on the joint electoral system under which half of the lawmakers are elected by party lists, while the other half in uninominal constituencies.

The PPRM also pleads for the election of the President of Moldova by the people’s vote. The party gathered over 150,000 signatures in support of this proposal.

On September 25, the Government assumed responsibility before Parliament for the adoption of seven bills.
