The electoral system will be modified if a bill to this effect gets a favorable expert opinion from the Venice Commission. Speaker Igor Corman, who sent the bill to the Commission on the request of a parliamentary group, told a press briefing today that a team of the Commission's experts will visit Moldova later this month to discuss our electoral system, IPN reports.

The bill proposes a shift from Moldova's current proportional voting system based on party lists to a mixed one, involving both party lists and uninominal voting.

Igor Corman said the Commission's representatives will meet with all the parliamentary groups and with representatives of the Central Election Commission. If the bill is okayed, the Parliament could modify the voting system during the upcoming spring-summer session, in time for the legislative elections due at the end of the year.
