Paris Paralympic Games over. Moldovan athletes return home

The closing ceremony of the 17th edition of the Paralympic Games took place on Sunday evening at the famous Stade de France stadium in Paris. The flag of the Republic of Moldova at the closing ceremony was carried by Ion Basoc and Ina Cernei, IPN reports.

The national Paralympic team of the Republic of Moldova won two medals at this edition, both in para judo. Ion Basoc (+90 kg) clinched silver and Oleg Crețul (-90 kg) won bronze.

The Republic of Moldova finished the Paralympic Games in 73rd place, out of a total of 184 countries.

China won most of the medals, 220 in number, were 94 of which gold ones. The UK ranked second with 124 medals, 49 of which were gold ones. The U.S. took the third place with 105 medals and 36 of these were gold ones.

The Republic of Moldova had five representatives at the Paralympic Games: Ion Basoc (+90 kg, para judo, 2nd place), Oleg Crețul (-90 kg, para judo, 3rd place), Larisa Marinenkova (para powerlifting, 7th place), Gheorghe Spînu (shot put, 8th place) and Ina Cernei (women’s para judo, reached 1/16 finals). For Gheorghe Spînu and Ina Cernei, this was their first participation in the Paralympic Games.

The Paralympic team of the Republic of Moldova will return home with a flight from Paris on September 10, at 12:20.

The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games took place between August 28 and September 8 and involved about 5,000 athletes, who competed in 22 sports events.
