All the political forces with pro-European options of Moldova can unite in support of the country’s European course by signing the National Responsibility Pact for a European Moldova launched by the Liberal Democratic Party, considers political analyst Ion Tabarta.
“This pact is probably formulated by the model of the Snagov Statement, where it is said that no matter what happens and regardless of any conflict, the European integration is strategic for Romania and is beyond question. It is also true about Moldova as all the political forces must assume the path to the EU,” Ion Tabarta stated for IPN.
However, the analyst said that in the case of Moldova it is more difficult to secure all the political parties’ support for the pro-European course. “Our society is divided. We have both pro-Eastern and pro-Western parties. I think this pact is intended for the pro-European parties that haven’t yet supported certain actions of the current government, like Mihai Ghimpu’s Liberal Party and the National Liberal Party of Vitalia Pavlichenko,” stated Ion Tabarta, adding that this pact has a symbolic connotation, but can also have a practical connotation if all the pro-European parties back it.
When launching the National Responsibility Pact for a European Moldova, the Liberal Democratic Party called upon on the leaders of all the parliamentary and extra-parliamentary parties, civil society and the ordinary people of Moldova to sign it. The pact is regarded as a commitment as concerns the path to European integration.
