Slightly over 70,300 Moldovan citizens who are abroad have preregistered for the snap parliamentary elections of July 11. As many as 14,234 of them live in Italy, in 799 settlements. The UK comes next with 11,292 registrations, being followed by Germany with 8,483 registrations. The figures are available on the website of the Central Election Commission (CEC), IPN reports.

Pre-registration is an optional service for the Moldovans with the right to vote to announce their intention to vote in a particular settlement abroad or to announce their intention to vote at polling stations on Moldova’s territory if they are citizens of the Republic of Moldova with the right to vote and have the domicile in the Transnistrian region.

The goal of the service is to determine the approximate number of electors who will vote at polling stations outside the country and at those intended for the citizens from the Transnistrian region and to also decide the number of additional stations that will be established abroad with the consent of the authorities of the host country and agree the number of ballot papers that will be distributed to the given polling places.

The Moldovan can preregister on the CEC’s website or by filing an individual or group application to the Commission (Chisinau, 119 V. Alecsandri St, MD-2012) and/or to the Moldova’s embassies and consular offices.
