Over 5,000 books will be donated to kindergartens in the Republic of Moldova within the “Children’s Book Bridge” Program, implemented based on the partnership of the Ministry of Education and Research of the Republic of Moldova with Romania’s OvidiuRO Association. Part of the donation has already reached the children from kindergarten No. 1 in Sireți village of Straseni district. The institution created a library corner with attractive books that help children understand the text and get a passion for books. The activity is part of a memorandum signed by Minister of Education and Research Dan Perciun and OvidiuRO Association president Maria Gheorghiu, IPN reports.
The document also stipulates that educators in preschool institutions will be trained how to organize reading activities in a way that is as attractive and interesting as possible, but also how to encourage parents to read to their children more often. “Early education and reading are essential to combat social inequity. A child who benefits from quality early education can realize their potential and become a citizen who contributes to the well-being of the community. We enjoy this possibility that we can offer to kindergartens in our country, together with our friends in Romania,” said Dan Perciun.
“The passion for learning and reading prompted us to come to rural libraries and a number of kindergartens in the Republic of Moldova, since 2018. From an early age, the formation of reading habits is the basis for the development of language and literacy skills. Therefore, spending time reading with them is one of the most beautiful gifts that an adult can offer to children,” said Maria Gheorghiu.
The “Children's Book Bridge” Program is successfully implemented in Romania. To date, more than 20,000 educators have been trained in methods for developing oral communication and reading and writing basics, and a total of more than 600,000 books have been distributed.
