Over 45 host centers opened in Chisinau since outbreak of Ukraine war

Three years after the start of the war in Ukraine, the Chisinau City Hall said that it has shown solidarity with the refugees who came to the Republic of Moldova. After the war broke out, more than 45 centers to host refugees were created, IPN reports"

“We created a warm home, welcomed them, transported them, accommodated them. We had over 45 refugee centers, where more than 600 volunteers worked. Half of all the officials of the Chisinau City Hall were involved in the management of this crisis without precented in Europe in the last 50 years," deputy mayor of Chisinau Ilie Ceban stated at the beginning of the ordinary meeting of officials of municipal services.

The last host center was closed on October 1, 2023. In total, 16,000 refugees were housed by the municipal host centers.

The refugee children were enrolled in educational institutions in the capital city. According to the latest data, 1,911 refugee children from Ukraine attend schools and kindergartens in the municipality. Since the beginning of the war, 4,000 refugee children were enrolled in municipal schools and kindergartens.

Deputy mayor Angela Kutasevich told IPN that persons with temporary protection status have the same rights and access to all the services as the citizens of the Republic of Moldova do.
