As many as 34,723 Moldovans abroad have registered beforehand for taking part in the November 1 presidential elections. Most of them – 6,583 – are from Italy, with the applications being filed online, IPN reports, quoting the Central Election Commission (CEC).

By the number of registrations, Italy is followed by the UK with 4,675 registrations, Russia with 4,663 registrations, 2,377 of which were submitted in writing, this being the highest number so far, Romania with 3,599 registrations, Germany with 2,980 registrations, France with 1,494 registrations, the U.S. with 1,968 registrations, Ireland with 1,764 registrations, Canada with 1,182 registrations.

The voters can register beforehand until September 16, when it is 45 days before the election day. At most 25 days before the election day, the voter can annul the earlier made registration.

The voters are invited to fill out the online registration form in the Registration Beforehand division on www.alegator.md or on the CEC’s official website www.cec.md. Registration can be made on paper, by filing an applicant signed individually or collectively to the CEC or to Moldova’s embassies and consular offices.

Such registration does not imply the removal of the citizens from the electoral register at the place of domicile. If the registered person on the election day is in the country, this could vote at the domicile. According to the CEC, the registration beforehand enables to estimate the number of voters abroad and in the Transnistrian region.
