More than 1,600 Moldovans holding biometric passports went through the border crossing points situated on the border with the European Union and the Chisinau International Airport the first day that the visa-free regime took effect.

About 600 Moldovans chose to cross the border through the Leuseni customs post. A number of 509 Moldovans left the country through the Chisinau International Airport. Another 196 went to the European community through the Costesti crossing point. The other Moldovan-Romanian checkpoints were crossed by about 400 citizens.

The border police distributed informative leaflets entitled “Your guide for free movement in the European area” to all the people who crossed the border. The guide was produced by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration.

Starting with April 28, the Moldovans holding a biometric passport can travel visa-free in the EU for 90 days within half a year.
