More than 1,300 offenses in the first half of this year were committed while under the influence of alcohol, a decrease of 16.5% compared with the corresponding period last year. Most of these are minor offenses, while 86% are offenses committed in the transport sector, where driving under the influence prevails.
According to the Public Security Division of the General Police Inspectorate, even if the offenses committed while inebriated slightly declined in number in contrast to the first half of last year, the number of conflicts that result in murders or serious bodily injuries increased. In the municipality of Chisinau, the figure rose to 714 offenses. The data are stipulated in the Map of Alcohol Consumption Consequences presented on July 24.
Most of the offenses committed while under the influence were recorded in Balti municipality (88), Comrat (83), and Chisinau, namely 66 in Riscani district, 56 in Ciocana district, and 60 in Centru district, and also in Cahul (58), Edinet (55), Stefan Voda (50) and Floresti (47).
