The Republic of Moldova recorded the largest number of confirmed cases of COVID-19 during one day since the start of the pandemic. On September 30, the Ministry of Health, Labor and Social Protection reported 1,013 new infections. The total number of infections rose to over 52,000.
Constantin Rymish, secretary of state at the Ministry, told a news conference that 3,472 tests were done today and 3,161 of these were primary ones. 11 of the cases of infection were imported: five from Turkey, three from Russia, two from Greece, and one from Romania.
Of all the new cases, 461 were recorded in the municipality of Chisinau. Also, 55 of those confirmed with the infection are healthcare workers.
As many as 649 patients with COVID-19 are in a serious state and 39 of these were put on a ventilator.
Ten persons succumbed to the virus. One of the victims is an employee of the Ministry of Healkth. The death toll now stands at 1,320.
