Over 100 ha of dry grass catch fire in Ceadâr-Lunga

More than 100 hectares of dry grass caught fire near Bejghios village of Ceadâr-Lunga district. The firemen struggled to contain the blaze for hours to as to prevent its extension. The firefighters were also called out in Sărata Nouă village of Fălești district where 20 ha of vegetation started to burn. In Cahul, a number of hotbeds were liquidated near Brânza, Borceag and Giurgiulești. In Cobusca Veche village of Anenii Noi district, the flames embraced over 10 ha of vegetation, IPN reports.

To prevent the risk of extension of flames, rescuers formed plowed protection strips on an area of 100 meters so as to protect the localities, wooded areas and enterprises, said the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations. Rescuers warn the population not to burn grass, reeds or solid waste as the fire can spread swiftly due to the low level of humidity and the wind.

On Friday and on the night of Sunday, firefighters extinguished vegetation fires that covered 269 ha. Employees of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations performed 42 operations to localize and put out fire hotbeds that endangered wooded areas and houses.
