Over 1 million electors voted by 4pm

More than 1 million citizens cast their ballots in the snap parliamentary elections by 4pm. Of these, 140,000 marked their choice outside the country. The polling station in Tokyo, Japan, was closed at 3pm, Chisinau time. Thirty-one persons voted there. The polling station in Beijing, China, was closed at 4pm. The stations on the east coast of the U.S. - in New York, Boston, Washington, Atlanta, Minneapolis, Chicago, Dallas, Asheville, Denver were only opened, IPN reports.

According to statistics, the voters in the electoral constituencies Rezina and Criuleni are the most active ones. The voter turnout there is over 35% of those eligible to vote. In the municipality of Chisinau, over 210,000 or more than 30% voted. More than 23,000 voters cast their ballots at the 41 polling stations established for citizens eligible to vote from the Transnistrian region.

CEC president Dorin Cimil underlined the unprecedented mobilization of the Moldovans abroad. By over 2,000 ballots were used at 15 polling stations abroad, primarily those situated in France, Italy, Germany and the UK.

Three more challenges were received by the Commission in addition to the two challenges received earlier. “These refer to the infrastructure of a polling station in London, organized transportation of voters to a polling place and a challenge filed by an observer, who said that voters who showed up at a polling station in the Russian Federation were offered vouchers. All the challenges were submitted for examination to the responsible bodies,” said Dorin Cimil.

CEC warns that campaigning on election day is banned and warns that video cameras are filming the voting process inside polling stations.
