The Prosecutor General's Office (PGO) has announced it completed the investigation against an Orhei prosecutor charged with passive corruption and sent his case to the court.

The prosecutor is accused of soliciting and receiving a $600 bribe in June this year for dropping DUI charges against a man. The prosecutor was caught red-handed immediately after he received the money inside the building of the District Prosecutor's Office. Several days later, the Prosecutors' Superior Council suspended him.

If found guilty, the prosecutor could be sentenced to up to 15 years in prison and a fine ranging from 160,000 to 200,000 lei, in addition to a ban from certain jobs for a period of up to 15 years.

The PGO recalls that four prosecutors were recently sentenced on corruption-related charges, being imprisoned for terms ranging from 4 to 8 years.
