Opposition MPs ask FM to explain 'potential attempts of provocation that could take place in the following days'

The Parliamentary opposition criticized Thursday the verbal note addressed by the Moldovan Foreign Ministry to the Romanian Foreign Ministry and the communique of the Justice Ministry (JM) spread out a day after the joint statement of the EU ambassadors to Chisinau, Info-Prim Neo reports. Opposition parliamentarians have asked to invite Foreign Minister Andrei Stratan to the floor to explain what he meant when he sent the Romanian Foreign Ministry, on November 26, a note requiring to display “increased prudence and vigilance concerning the public statements that the Romanian officials and representatives of the Romanian minority in the Republic of Moldova could make in the following days ”. Democratic Party leader (PD) Dumitru Diacov ironically said that the foreign minister should meet all the diplomats and simple tourists at the customs office to tell them what statements they may or may not make. “I think we should agree that the ambassadors also register at the JM, to pass through all the internal procedures, but when they want to make statements, they should consult with the right persons,” Diacov joked concerning the commentary of the Justice Minister. National Liberal Party leader Vitalia Pavlicenco has asked the Foreign Minister to explain the principles on which he made his statement. “I consider it to be a grave mistake which mars our image and it's a good idea to repair it through the Parliament,” the PNL leader argued. Pavlicenco ironically proposed that “the credentials given to the heads of diplomatic missions should be turned into licenses that could be withdrawn by the Communists Party when the latter dislikes the ambassadors' statements.” In connection to the last statement by the EU ambassadors, Pavlicenco has proposed to set up a working group to consider the faults of the democratic process in Moldova and to draft a political commitment by Moldova to hold free and fair elections. Liberal Democratic (PLDM) leader Vlad Filat has asked the Foreign Minister to tell what he meant when saying that the Moldovan authorities hold information on potential attempts of provocation that could take place in the following days . He proposes to hold parliamentary hearings next week to discuss the warnings worded by the EU ambassadors and to make the necessary decision to insure free and democratic elections. The Communists and the Christian-Democrats rejected all the proposals. Vlad Filat reiterated his request in form of an interpellation to be answered by the Foreign Ministry within two weeks. In a joint statement issued on November 25, the heads of the EU embassies and institutions to Chisinau urged the Moldovan authorities to make sure the coming elections are democratic. The diplomats referred to a series of political parties complaining of difficulties on meeting the new registration procedures. In response the Justice Ministry claimed it was not consulted by the diplomats and assured all the registration procedures were observed.
