Opportunities of Moldova’s capital market discussed with Romanian Investors Association

Anca Dragu, governor of the National Bank of Moldova, met with representatives of the Romanian Investors Association, visiting Chisinau. The meeting focused, in particular, on improving access to capital markets, as well as on adjusting the legal framework and improving consumer protection of financial products. A focus of the discussions was the opportunities for the investment environment driven by the monetary policy of the NBM.

The NBM said in a press release that an important aspect of the meeting was the evolution of international payment and transfer solutions, in the context where Romania is Moldova’s main trade partner. The discussions also focused on credit conditions, the revision of the financial product consumer protection framework, the liberalization of the capital account, etc.

Anca Dragu emphasized that sustainable economic development and European integration are among the key priorities of the Republic of Moldova. According to her, NBM is making sustained efforts to improve regulation, supervision, sustainable governance: “I wish such meetings would take place more often. The BNM stands by the business community and only together we can find solutions to the current problems”, declared Anca Dragu.

The governor added that Moldova enjoys a favorable macroeconomic context, and the central bank’s contribution to establishing this positive dynamic is confirmed by price stability: “We have a decreasing annual inflation rate. In April 2024, the annual inflation rate reached 3.51%. This performance made it possible to adjust the monetary policy interest rate to 3.60%”, noted Dragu.

Daniel Nutiu, executive president of the Romanian Investors Association, welcomed the continuation of the reforms in Chisinau, the accelerated development of the financial-banking system in Moldova, thanking the representatives of the National Bank of Moldova for opening an effective dialogue with Romanian investors.

The Romanian Investors Association has 40 members representing 60% of the total Romanian investment in Moldova.
