The Moldovan authorities managed the COVID19 pandemic in a disastrous way, considers projects manager Valeriu Pașa, of the WatchDog community. According to him, after over a month since the detection of the first case of infection with the novel coronavirus, it is evident that Minister of Health Viorica Dumbrăveanu does not know the medical procedures, the country’s chief doctor Nicolae Furtună provides false information, while President Igor Dodon serves on the Commissions for Exceptional Situations at a time when he has no legal power to do this. The issue was developed in the public debate “Pandemic and Politics, barriers and chances of consensus” that was held by IPN News Agency.

“The government, on the one hand, lamentably failed to manage this crisis since its appearance. I mean the stage of prevention and the worsening of the crisis. So, they effectively ignored all those who demanded to take measures. They lied and falsified information and statements and this swiftly came out, starting with the information about the outfitting of hospitals and purchase of protective equipment. It has been over a month since the Center for Health Procurement launched the tender contest for buying equipment, but the doctors haven’t been yet supplied with equipment,” stated Valeriu Pașa.

The expert also made serious accusations against Minister of Health Viorica Dumbrăveanu and National Public Health Agency director Nicolae Furtună. “The management of the crisis in the public health sector is disastrous, with a minister who does not yet know medical procedures and who is probably a good public policy manager, but not in the current situation, and with a chief doctor of the Republic of Moldova, I mean Mister Furtună, who simply lies in an unpermitted way in each of his appearances. The chief doctor of the country presents false information, lies,” noted Valeriu Pașa.

“President Igor Dodon, who is a member of the Commissions for Exceptional Situations, does not have legal powers to serve on this working group. The President, who has absolutely no legal powers, interferes in the way in which the Commission, the government, that National Public Health Commission manage this crisis. We cannot differently treat this disaster, including the prevention of this crisis, the population supervision measures, the coercive measures. All these are consequences of incompetence, not of the lack of financial resources, as they didn’t raise the problem of absence of funds for purchasing gowns, masks, visors.”
