The operating block with 15 surgical rooms of the National Emergency Medicine Institute was inaugurated on Thursday following extensive reconstruction works and outfitting with modern medical equipment. The modernization was carried out within a project financed by the Government of Japan, IPN reports.

Through the "Moldova Health System Strengthening Program", the Government of Japan financed the modernization of hospital equipment at the Institute, thanks to a grant agreement signed in 2022 between the Ministry of Health and the Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA).

The grant to the value of 1 billion Japanese yen (over €7 million) is designed for the equipment of a number of medical institutions, including the Emergency Medicine Institute.

At the inauguration event, the Ambassador of Japan in Chisinau Yamada Yoichiro spoke about his personal experience when he was hospitalized and thanked the health professionals for their work. The diplomat noted that in 2022, when Ukrainian refugees fled to Moldova, the whole world followed how they were warmly received by the Moldovan population and hospitals.

"I've seen this in Japan. We were touched by what you did. We have seen the great efforts made by the Moldovan government to muster humanitarian aid. The delivered equipment is a symbol of our solidarity and gratitude," said Ambassador Yamada Yoichiro.
