The list of persons arrested in the case of stealing of money from Banca de Economii (BEM) through bad loans is being extended. Another member of the Lending Committee of the BEM was arrested by the National Anticorruption Center on suspicion that he violated the lending rules, IPN reports.
According to a communique of the Center, the man was placed under arrest for 72 hours. The prosecutors intend to demand that he should be remanded in custody.
Last week, seven persons were escorted to the National Anticorruption Center for being familiarized with their status of suspect. These are: the former president of Banca de Economii, ex-chairman of the Lending Committee, ex-head of the bank’s Legal Divisor and three businessmen. Two more suspects – the ex-vice president of the BEM and ex-head of the bank’s Economic Security Division – were obliged to appear before the prosecution officers every time they are summoned.
Based on court decisions, two of the beneficiaries of loans from Banca de Economii were remanded in custody, while the others were placed under house arrest.
