On March 8, European integration in Chisinau centered also on gender equality

The European path of the Republic of Moldova is powerfully supported in the EU member states. This is the message of the female ministers and secretaries of state for European affairs of Austria, Bulgaria, France, Germany, Liechtenstein, Lithuania, Romania, Sweden, and Hungary who visited Chisinau on International Women’s Day, which underlines the ladies’ contribution to the modernization and European integration processes, IPN reports.

The group was welcomed by the President of the Republic of Moldova. According to the presidential press service, President Maia Sandu reiterated that our country’s place is in the European Union. For their part, the female ministers noted the results achieved by the Republic of Moldova in the field of political representation of women and the efforts made by the Moldovan authorities to promote gender equality and to combat gender-based violence.

The eight officials who represent the countries of the EU General Affairs Council of (GAC) –“NGEN Salzburg Format” – also had a meeting with Prime Minister Dorin Recean.

In the discussions, the Premier spoke about the firm decision of the team he heads to make progress in doing reforms for the benefit of the citizens and to modernize public institutions. Dorin Recean also spoke about the institutionalization of the process of joining the EU by forming the 33 working groups involved in the coordination of the European integration process.

The officials also made a visit to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, where Minister Nicu Popescu underlined that Chisinau’s objective is clear – to prepare the Republic of Moldova for the accession negotiations with the EU and to launch new measures, initiatives and actions that anchor the country in the European space more firmly than ever.

“We are organizing, together with the EU, a joint civilian security advisory mission. We continue work with the European partners in our interaction in the European facilitation for peace. Evidently, we are also organizing the summit of the European Political Community that, more than ever, will signal the solidarity of the European states with the Republic of Moldova, the support for our aspirations and our joint efforts to ensure peace for our citizens,” noted Popescu.

The female officials’ visit to Chisinau ended with a public discussion about the European path of the Republic of Moldova, which involved the President, the minister of foreign affairs, members of the body of diplomats accredited to Chisinau and representatives of civil society.
