Dumitru Godorog, a former convict that was represented in court by Natalia Moloșag when she worked as a lawyer, was employed at the Ombudsperson’s Office based on a contract for the provision of volunteer services valid for October-December 2021. He worked as a driver and also as a bodygiatrd, Natalia Moloșag told a news conference, being quoted by IPN.

Natalia Moloșag said Dumitru Godorog was her client in a case in which he admitted his guilt and he served his sentence. As she wanted to help him to reintegrate socially, she hired him at her law firm and then employed him at the Ombudsperson’s Office. Those who disseminated those reports did it in revenge in order to slander him after “unpleasant things” were detected at the institution and the Security and Intelligence Service and the Financial Inspectorate were notified of these so that inspections are carried out.

The ombudswoman said Dumitru Godorog didn’t become involved in her duties and didn’t have access to personal data. Confirming that she visited the penitentiary in Lipcani together with Dumitru Godorog, she said that the man accompanied her to ensure her security as the Moldovan jails are short of staff and those who perform monitoring are exposed to risks. She allowed such a situation probably because she does not have experience in managing a public institution.

Natalia Moloșag noted she is ready to resign if deviations are identified or if it turns out that she spoiled the image of the institution she manages.

The Eastern Partnership Civil Society Forum (EaP CSF) published a statement referring to the reports concerning the situation at the Ombudsperson’s Office. The member organizations of the EaP SCF Moldova National Platform express their concern about the alleged violations committed by the Ombudswoman. The EaP CSF called on the responsible bodies to investigate the circumstances reported by the press. “If the press reports are confirmed, we demand that Ombudswoman Natalia Moloșag should immediately and unconditionally resign as the damage done to the Ombudsperson’s Office is incommensurable,” runs the statement.
