The students with accomplishments at national and international Olympiads and competitions and their teachers will receive twice higher money awards from the state. For example, for a gold medal won at a regional contest, the student who obtained a maximum score will get 25,000 lei, as opposed to 12,500 lei at present. For the same result at an international competition, the student will be offered 50,000 lei. This is provided in a draft decision approved by the Cabinet, IPN reports.

According to the Ministry of Education and Research, the remuneration for persons involved in the assessment of participants in national, regional or international Olympiads and competitions held in Moldova will be raised by 67%.

The sum allocated for staging regional or international Olympiads and competitions, which was last set in 2006, will also be raised. Next year Moldova will host the eighth European Junior Olympiad in Informatics, which will involve students from over 30 countries.

More than 3,500 students and teachers annually take part in national Olympiads and competitions. Also, national Olympic squads each year contend in about 20 regional and international Olympiads.

The decision is to be implemented at a total cost of about 9.7 million lei.
