Prisoner Oleg Pruteanu, alias Borman, who has been in remand detention for almost three years on charges of trafficking in drugs, will be today set free from Penitentiary No. 16 “Pruncul”, where he was transferred to be treated for COVID-19. Under the judgment passed by the Buiucani Court, the prisoner will be placed under judicial control.

Contacted by IPN for a comment, Oleg Pruteanu’s lawyer Alla Raevschi confirmed that Oleg Pruteanu will be released under judicial control “even if he is infected with coronavirus”.

“He is free. When he leaves prison, he can call 112 and choose where to be taken, as a free man. Neither the National Administration of Penitentiaries nor someone else is empowered to coordinate the place where he should be taken with the Ministry of Health,” stated the lawyer.

She added that as her client is no longer in custody, no one has the right to decide in his place.
