An old woman from Pojăreni village of Ialoveni district died after a fire broke out in the attic of her house. It was determined that the chimney caught fire as a result of the deposited soot, IPN reports.

According to the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations, the firefighters who travelled to the scene found the body of the 84-year-old owner in the house. It is assumed that the person got poisoned by products of combustion. Specialists preliminarily established that the chimney caught fire as a result of the deposited soot.

Rescuers repeatedly urge people to be cautious when starting fires in the stove, to strictly observe the fire safety rules. Ventilation ducts and chimneys must be cleaned before using heating stoves. Moreover, special attention should be paid to the elderly and lonely people, who need assistance in using heating stoves.

Another person perished in a fire in an abandoned house in Seliștea Nouă village of Călărași district. At the scene, firefighters found the body of a 51-year-old man on a charred mattress. Reckless smoking is the preliminary version examined. Several cigarette butts were found at the scene.

In this connection, rescuers urge the people to avoid smoking inside homes, especially near combustible or easily flammable materials.

The 378 fires that happened in Moldova so far this year resulted in 33 deaths.
