Oil prices suddenly dropped

Oil prices decreased all of a sudden after Israel has announced about halting military actions in Lebanon. According to the consultancy agency Financial Brains, the price for petroleum constitutes USD 73.33 per barrel.
On Friday, international agencies announced that the explosive situation in Lebanon is the cause of the increase in price of petroleum. One barrel of petroleum reached the historical level of USD 78.03 in London, after it reached on Thursday in New York the level of USD 78.40. Economic analysts stated that the maintenance of Israeli offensive in Lebanon could influence the market of the Republic of Moldova, because it imports significant volumes of petroleum.
Also on Friday, the executive director of the Petroleum Importers Union “Importcompetrol”, Vladimir Ghitu, told Info-Prim Neo that at present no price increase is planned, but if prices will continue to run high at the international exchange markets or if they will stay at the Friday level, an increase in price in Moldova is unavoidable.
