Representatives of the Party of Socialists (PSRM) say the October 20 election was marked by significant violations that affected the integrity of the democratic process, and these irregularities were confirmed by international observers, IPN reports.

Deputy Speaker of Parliament Vlad Bătrîncea, a member of the Executive Committee of the PSRM, told a press briefing that "the findings of the missions that observed the current election show that neither the experts of the European community, nor the institutions with authority, such as the PACE or the Venice Commission, want to turn a blind eye to the democratic backsliding in the Republic of Moldova and they dissociate themselves from these harmful practices of favoring the candidate representing the government and note that the media in the Republic of Moldova, as well as the state institutions, are biased regarding the presidential campaign in 2024".

"Mrs. Sandu on election night said that they will decide what to do with this election. That is, she hinted that they might or might not recognize it. And a natural question arises: in what capacity did she make this statement? As a candidate, or as the incumbent President? If in the capacity of head of state, this action constitutes an illegality that endangers her status as a candidate in the election,” said Vlad Bătrîncea.

During Sunday's electoral debate for the runoff presidential election, the PSRM’s candidate Alexandr Stoianoglo offered his challenger in the presidential election Maia Sandu to sign a declaration by which she would undertake to recognize the election result if she loses. For his part, Stoianoglo said that if he does not emerge victorious, he pledges not to call on the voters to mount protests.
