The president of the National Unity Party (PUN) Octavian Țîcu announced that the Romanian People’s Party (PPR) could be absorbed by the PUN. According to him, this is the only party with which the representatives of the PUN could discuss the consolidation of the unionist sector, IPN reports.

“The Romanian People’s Party led by Vlad Țurcanu is the one with which we can discuss. We can reach a compromise as to the absorption of this party by the PUN. The National Unity Party is represented in Parliament, has representatives in the Chisinau and Bălți Municipal Councils and has seven mayors. This enables us to discuss the relationship with the PPR through this absorption that will make everyone happy and by which we will be able to implement this ideal. I do not believe in other parties,” Octavian Țîcu explained in the talk show “Fourth Power” on N4 TV channel.

He also said he does not know if MPs Lilian Carp and Iurie Reniță intend to join the PUN, but he discussed the issue with both of them. “Mister Reniță is closer to the party, but his idea is to create a parliamentary and extraparliamentary unionist platform. I don’t know if he manages to do this. I offered Lilian Carp to be the first vice president of the party, but he made another choice. I saw him with Chirtoacă and Deliu elsewhere. He evaded the invitation to come to the PUN Congress. We will yet discuss,” stated the politician.

The PUN leader noted the initiative of the presidents of the Liberal Party and the Save Bessarabia Union to cooperate closer and to consolidate the right is a symptomatic matter. “It seems symptomatic to me to want to unify the unionist pole in the current conditions, after so many things were done. For example, I would wonder why the Euro-integrationist parties do not want to unite. There are many Euro-integrationist parties, such as the PAS, PPDA, PLDM, and PDM. Why should the unionists unite and form one party when their views on the reintegration are different? This is a logical question. There are people who should understand that they cannot cope with the situation and should take care of their activities. If they can persuade the voters they are better, they should do it,” stated Octavian Țîcu.

According to him, for a party to be considered unionist, it should be recognized in Bucharest.
