A probation counsellor from Ocnita was arrested by anticorruption officers on passive corruption charges. According to the preliminary investigation results, he asked for US$3,500 from a convicted man, IPN reports.
According to a communiqué from the National Anticorruption Center, the probation counsellor was to regularly supervise the convicted man. He promised the man he will not inform the police if he goes abroad and will take steps to free him from punishment before time.
The functionary was caught in the act of taking the money. He faces up to ten years in jail and a fine of up to 60,000 lei for passive corruption.
