The voluntary blood donors make up 40% of the total number of donors in Moldova. Their number increased by 20% after the launch of the campaign “Donate a Drop of Life!”. Contacted by Info-Prim Neo, Svetlana Cebotari, the head of the National Blood Transfusion Center, said that 661 persons have donated blood voluntarily from December 22 until January 11, as against 250 persons in the same period last year. According to Svetlana Cebotari, a blood donor can save approximately three lives, depending on the patient’s needs. There will be also organized field trips to collect blood. The persons who donate blood must meet several conditions – be aged between 18 and 60, weigh at last 50 kilograms, be not affected by viral hepatitis or another hemato-transmissible disease. The awareness-raising campaign “Donate a Drop of Life!” is carried out by the Center for Health Policy and Studies in cooperation with the Ministry of Health and the National Blood Transfusion Center. It will last by March 22.
