Number of recipients of covered drugs increasing

In the first half of this year, over 595,000 people benefited from drugs covered under the national mandatory health insurance scheme, or by nearly 29,000 more than in the same period last year. Most of them, 391,000, received covered medicines for cardiovascular diseases, and around 99,000 for diabetes, reports IPN.

The National Medical Health Company reported that 381 million lei was spent on covered drugs in the first half of the year, over 67 million more than in the first half of last year. The average cost for one beneficiary was around 640 lei.

During the same period, approximately 2.7 million prescriptions were issued and covered, by over 237,000 more than in the similar period last year.

As of July 1, 2022, insulin analogues were added for the first time to the covered list. It is estimated that nearly 20,000 patients will receive fully covered medicines as a result.

Also from July 1, people receiving palliative outpatient care may benefit from 11 generics that are fully covered.

Free medicines also became available for people suffering from autism spectrum disorders.
