Number of people paying higher property taxes rising

The number of natural entities paying higher property taxes is on a rise. The question is about the tax-payers living in municipalities and towns, who have apartments and houses with an area larger than 100 sq. m. Igor Turcanu, the chief of the Local Taxes Direction of the State Fiscal Inspectorate, says in 2007 only in Chisinau municipality they calculated increased taxes for 3,700 tax-payers, Info-Prim Neo reports.
The tax-payers have paid amount between 500 lei and 25,000 lei, depending on their dwelling area. The total amount of the property tax paid by this category was 5.8 million lei. The owners of large immovables benefit of the 15% discount, if they pay it till June 30.
The following categories benefit of discounts in paying the property tax, under article 283 of the Fiscal Code: the retired , the 1st and 2nd degree disabled, the disabled from childhood, the participants in the Afghani war, the participants in the fights for Moldova's integrity, the participants in the liquidation of the Chernobyl catastrophe, their families and others.
The discounts are established within the boundary of 380,000 lei in Chisinau, 156,000 lei – in Balti, 145,000 lei – in Hancesti, 138,000 – in Cahul, 87,000 lei – in Ungheni etc. The discount is granted for only one immovable.
The rate is established by the local public administration at the market value of the respective immovable, assessed by the Cadaster Agency. The Parliament established but the minimum rate of 0.02% and the maximum – 0.25%, as the local administrations shall vary between those. In Chisinau the rate is 0.02.
Under the law, for an apartment or a house with 100 sq. m. the applied coefficient is 1. If the dwelling space varies between 100 and 200 sq. m., the coefficient is 3. Above 200 sq. m. – 28. For the houses in the rural areas, another coefficient is used to make the calculations. Thus, till 100 sq. m. the applied coefficient is 1. From 100 to 150 sq. m. – 1.5. From 150 to 200 metrisq. m. – 2, and from 200 to 300 sq. m. – 10. Above 300 m. the coefficient is 15.
